| Renovation and rebuild of a 1942 Moller pipe organ
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Milledgeville GA is a small but active Catholic parish. The building dates from the 1800s and is still in current use today. In 1942 Sacred Heart purchased a small 3 rank Möller cabinet organ to be located in the gallery.
The organ has served the church well, but as with any instrument age and use has taken its toll. To hamper matters even more the platform for the organ had been carpeted making service access all but impossible for certain areas of the organ.
In late 2009, having been the curators for more than 15 years, the church signed contract to have the organ removed, cleaned and rebuilt. Renovations included:
- New keyboards
- New Solid State Organ Systems relay and capture action
- Re-leathering all the windchests and winding system
- A new blower
The church also saw wisdom in the removal of carpet and installation of a new hardwood floor under the organ.
The organ was removed in early 2010 for the renovations. The organ was completed and reinstalled in late spring 2010. The organ received some very necessary tonal regulation work after installation and before the final tuning. With the current refurbishment, the organ should survive well into the future to see it's 100th birthday for Sacred Heart!
Susan Craig serves as the Organist/Choir Director for Sacred Heart.
