Two new organs have been contracted for Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. The main organ (Opus 8) will be housed in the gallery and will consist of 37 ranks with a 3-manual console with drawknobs and tracker touch keys. An unenclosed chancel organ (Opus 9) has already been installed on each side of the altar, containing 12 ranks with a 2-manual moveable console with stop tabs, and tracker touch keys. This organ will also be playable from the main gallery console when it is installed. These new organs will replace an instrument from the 1960’s that lacked tonal character and proper balance and regulation of pipes. The chancel organ will serve as an antiphonal division to the gallery organ; in addition the chancel organ will be able to stand as an independent organ to accompany smaller choral works, more intimate services within the church, and may also be used as a continuo instrument for other musical ensembles. Both organs will be able to support enthusiastic congregational hymns and choral music as well as having substantially more tone and color than the previous organ. The main organ is scheduled to be completed in early 2008. The chancel organ was completed in the summer of 2007.
