Holtkamp 3M/40R

This project was divided into several phases, one of which was major tonal renovations. The organ, a Holtkamp, dates from 1926. The instrument was expanded in 1955 by the Kilgen Organ Co. and received a new console at that time. In 1980, Holy Trinity Lutheran purchased the organ, and relocated it to their new sanctuary in Marietta, Georgia, just northwest of Atlanta, where it has served the congregation for over 20 years. Even though the installation was clean and well engineered, the organ faced many obstacles in its new home. The Kilgen console had grown unreliable and its physical size posed many other problems. In 2000, Parkey Organbuilders built a new custom, low profile drawknob console and provided new relays. We also addressed some tonal issues the organ presented. The organ fell short in mutations, while the principal choruses (one in each division) were simply too big for the room. This phase of the project involved installing new pipework to rescale the principals in tone and volume. The Firm also reconfigured the reed chorus in the Swell Division and completed the mutations in the Choir Division. The final tonal finishing was completed in January 2005.

In 2006, a new great wind chest was added to replace the failing great wind chest. This wind chest was also raised approximately 6 feet to aid on projection of sound for accompanying congregational singing. Also in 2006, Parkey Organ Builders has made a proposal for the addition of a new facade.
